I created this cute chalkboard tray for my kitchen last week using this white tray I found at Michaels. I roughed up the edges a tad because I like that slightly worn look!

I gave it 3 good coats of chalkboard paint...you can buy it anywhere...Michaels, Joanns, Home Depot.

I think it turned out cute!!

KiDS bLoCK KeY HooK

By now we've all heard of Pinterest and have most likely ~~wasted~~ spent a good amount of time on it.

When I came across this adorable key hook made from childrens blocks on Pinterest I knew I had to make one for our new house. This idea came from

Here is my take on it...

I started with a piece of scrap wood that I painted black and distressed on the edges.

Next I found me some blocks which were pretty easy to find since they are usually strewn all over my livingroom carpet...btw these little devils hurt if stepped on.

In the bottom of each block I screwed a ceiling hook.

I painted my blocks with Rustoleums Heirloom white spray paint. I didn't want my hooks white so I covered them with tape.

To hold my picture I used these little do dads I purchased from Michaels. They are actually brads and are found in the scrapbooking section. I nailed four of them onto my board.

I used Gorilla Glue to affix my blocks onto my board. Those blocks are never going anywhere..

I used two saw tooth hangers on the back to hang my board, one on each side so the weight of my keys doesn't tip it to one side.

Hello my cherished readers...I'm sorry my blog has been so neglected for way too long. I've been spending a lot of time getting to know this little dude.

Two days after we had our second born we moved into our new house so lets just say it has been a whirlwind around these parts. I have managed to sneak in a few craft projects in which I'll be posting very soon....

Drop Cloth HaLLoWeEN Pillow

I'm jumping on the Halloween train early this year so I can make the most of it.

Besides with our new addition set to arrive soon I'll be consumed with diapers and drool rather than crafts...

I used a drop cloth from Home Depot to make this pillow.

I decided to try out Martha Stewarts new paint line for my green and orange lines. It worked great....just a little stinky for my sensitive pregnancy nose. This stuff apparently works on any craft surface including glass.

Using painters tape I taped off my lines on one side of the pillow and painted with a foam brush between the lines.

While that was drying I ironed on my TriCk Or TrEAt iron on that I found at Michaels onto a smaller piece of drop cloth.

My patch was sewn on using a zig zag stitch then I was ready to assemble my pillow.

I sewed all the way around the edges on the front side leaving about a 4 inch gap on one end.

I stuffed the pillow with Poly fill and sewed the opening shut.

Here's how she turned out!!

BURLAP WREATH

I've seen these and many other burlap wreaths all over blog land and decided I needed one of my own for my fall / Halloween decor.

I started this wreath with a wire coat hanger shaped into a circle (this was the hardest part)

I then cut strips of burlap about 4 inches in width and about 4 feet long.

I'll admit this took more burlap than I thought to make it look full....like about a yard and a half give or take.
(sorry no pics I did this late at night spur of the moment in my poorly lite basement)

I folded and threaded the burlap (like an accordian) onto the coat hanger and scrunched and folded over and over until my wreath looked full. I pulled my threads to give it a messy look once I was done.

I secured the edges of the coat hanger with some wire and added a piece of fabric to hang it.

I'm not too sure how I will decorate this sucker for Fall or Halloween yet so in the meantime I pinned this little spider on.

I'm even thinking of making these darling little pumpkins to pin onto it that I found over at

DIY BABY MOBILE

With our little guy set to arrive next month, I've been finishing off some goodies for his space which include this MoBiLe!!

Here are the supplies I used for my mobile...

the yellow rings are embroidery hoops and I purchased the pre cut wooden pieces from Michaels.

I also used a dremmel tool to make holes in my wood to feed the string through and metal washers. (not pictured)

Using good old Mod Podge I glued my scrapbook paper onto my wooden circle. Once it was dry I used my scalpal to trim off the excess paper.

I found these adhesive letters at Michaels. I thought they were kinda cool and they end up leaving light spots on the wall when the sun shines.

My mobile turned out how I envisioned and in the end cost me under $10 to make....bonus!!

MiNi Boo Boo Box

We all know if you have kids then your bound to have boo boo's, so I recently whipped up this Mini Boo Boo Box to carry around in my purse.

I started with an empty Altoid mint container and covered it with paper and ribbon. I gave the top a coat of matte Mod Podge to seal and protect the paper.

On the inside I included important emergency numbers and filled it with some Poly spray and bandaids.

I'll probably add some small candies or stickers as well. They usually work wonders when little ones get hurt.

P.B K.O. GIANT RULER GROWTH CHART

Try saying that 3 times fast.

I came across this great post by 517 Creations and I immediately got down to business making my own.

It's inspired by a Pottery Barn ruler that probably sells for one pretty penny.

In the end I liked my $8 one much better.

I purchased a 1x6x8 piece of board from Home Depot and cut it down to 5 feet.

After sanding my board, I stained it using some stain I had left over from some other projects.

The stain is very similar in colour to the Mini Wax special walnut stain.

Two coats later and I was ready to make this board look like a ruler.

I was going to use a felt pen to draw on the lines and numbers but instead I took the ~~lazy~~ easy way out and did it with my Cricut and extra sticky vinyl. The font I used was Century.

I marked an inch up the side of my board and placed a strip of black vinyl in different lengths like a real ruler. Every 12 inches I added a number.

I hung it two feet from the floor since I started with the number two on my board.

This can be used as an actual growth chart (which I plan on using it for) or would look cute in a craft room!!

GIANT SCRABBLE TILES TUTORIAL

In a previous post I turned some old wooden blocks into giant scrabble tiles. My obsession didn't end there so I created my own. I'm thinking these will make great inexpensive Christmas gifts too.

I cut my 4 inch wood pieces and sanded them down rounding the corners a bit.

You could use a 2x4 if you want something that would stand up better on a shelf. Since I was hanging mine on the wall I wanted something less chunky.

I gave my blocks a quick coat of stain

Like my previous scrabble tile post I printed my vinyl letters and numbers on my Cricut and Sure Cuts Alot software using the font KALINGA for the letters and ARIEL for the numbers.

I used these handy little nails to hang my tiles on the wall. You just hammer the pointy end into your tile half way then push the other end into your wall.

Not sure what numbers go with what letters according to the real scrabble tiles?? Here ya go...

ASHTYN'S TABLE AND CHAIR SET

I'm excited to finally post this project because of the fact it's been a year in the making.

I purchased the unfinished SVALA set at IKEA that included a table and two chairs.

First I primed my table top and seats of the chair with white primer.

I free handed my animals onto the table top and painted them with Ceramcoat acrylic paints from Michaels.
I also used Ceramcoat paint for the seats of the chairs.

The table top and chair seats were given approx. 4 coats of this polyurethane from Benjamin Moore. I wouldn't normally use a high gloss finish on a project however, the sales person mentioned in the long run it does hold up better on a well used piece.

The legs of the table and chairs were given two coats of stain using this all in one stain also purchased from Benjamin Moore.

I'm very happy with how this set turned out and so is my little customer. I guess you can say nesting is a wonderful thing since I'm finally getting long overdue projects DONE!!

GIANT SCRABBLE TILES

I had these wooden baby blocks in my daughters closet that weren't being used so I decided to repurpose them by turning them into giant scrabble tiles.

They were plain stained wood on the back so I just flipped them over and using my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software gave them new life.

In case your wondering I used the KALINGA font for the letters and ARIEL font for the numbers.

I've started making my own tiles for gifts so I'll be sure to post my tutorial when I'm finished.

BRASS FIREPLACE REDO

I really should of done this many years ago but better late than never right? I guess you can say nesting got the best of me yesterday since I decided to tackle my gold fireplace surround.

I don't have pics of the process since I was in a hurry to just get it done, however, I'll share what I did with some before and afters.

Here is my fireplace BEFORE....warning blindness may occur when looking at the BRASS

1. Start by removing your brass surround pieces. If you're unable to remove them or it's too yucky outside to spray paint you can use Rust-oleums high heat brush on paint instead.

2. Take them outside and lightly sand the brass. The idea here is to rough up the smooth slick surface so the paint adheres better.

3. Wipe and dry your brass pieces.

4. Gather your protective equipment that should be used when spray painting....safety first people!!

*respirator

* protective eye wear

*long sleeve clothing

5. Cover your work surface with a drop cloth or cardboard. I wouldn't suggest plastic since your spray painted stuff will stick to it.

Oh and spray paint outside in mild temperatures with no wind, unless you want the side of your house or your children spray painted in the process.

7. I used Rust-oleum's High Heat Spray Paint in black. It cost me a whopping 6 bucks from Home Depot.

8. Follow the directions on the spray paint can and start to paint your pieces.

Because the rain was on its way I only did two coats of spray paint where I probably would've done three of four....I'm obsessive like that.

Really a fireplace surround rarely gets touched so two is probably all you need.

9. Once your pieces are completely dry slap em back onto your fireplace and say goodbye to the 90's.

DIY COFFEE TABLE TRAY

I've been s-l-o-w-l-y working on projects and it seems as though I have a million of them going at once.

I'm happy to say I finally have one complete and off my to craft list, and that is this coffee table tray.

I started with a piece of flat board and some 2 x 1's I found in the garage....hmm I think those are 2 x 1's, I'm no professional wood worker ok.

I cut and sanded my wood pieces down to size so they all fit nicely together to create a tray. I used wood glue and small nails to keep it all together.

Next I painted the tray using two coats of my Behr Black Suede interior paint from Home Depot.

Once the paint was completely dry I enlisted my little assistant to help me sand the tray down to give it the worn, primitive look.

To complete the tray look I added these window pulls I purchased from Home Depot. They were a lot cheaper than any of the handles in the knobs and handle section and I liked that they looked a little more shabby and worn looking.

At the last minute I remembered I needed to give this baby a coat of my Mini Wax Dark Walnut Stain.

There she is all done!!

DIY Prints With Picnik

The other night I was browsing on ETSY (my guilty pleasure) and I came across some cute prints perfect for a child's room.

I then got to thinking "hey I could make those....I once saw a great tutorial over at

that explains how to make your own printables easy peasily using the free program PICNIK"!!

Before you head on over there to become inspired check out the prints I made for my soon to arrive son's nursery.

I printed these Picnik creations on my printer using best print quality and glossy or matte photo paper.

Once you've printed them add them to a cheap frame found at Walmart or Ikea and voila, instant art!!

I'll show off the real thing once I get them framed.

CHEAP DIY VINYL ART

Two weeks ago we were delighted to find out that we are adding a baby boy to our family. With that confirmed I got down to creating some decorations for his nursery.

We've decided on a friendly monster theme for our little dude and so far it's turning out to be a fun theme.

Using canvas from the dollar store and some vinyl I created these wall hangings...

Wanna make some too??? The possibilites are endless and did I mention they are cheap to make??

Grab yourself some canvas from the dollar store and paint it with acrylic paint. I chose this metallic teal colour which seemed kinda space/monsterish.

Draw your designs on paper, or better yet use your Cricut or Silhouette machine to cut them out.

I couldn't find any monsters I liked so I just freehanded them.

Cut out your paper shapes and trace onto the back of your vinyl if your doing the freehand method. Be sure to flip them so they turn out the right way once you cut them out.

Use a scalpel for fine cuts and a punch for perfect circles...

Once your design is cut out on your vinyl use some transfer tape to stick your designs onto the canvas. To save money I use cheap old clear contact paper from walmart. It does the exact same thing for half the price.

Peel the backing off the contact paper and stick to the front of your vinyl design. This will now allow you to peel off the backing from your vinyl exposing the stickiness so it can be placed onto your canvas.

Stick your design onto the canvas and smooth out any bubbles using a popsicle stick or credit card.

Don't press down too hard or you will stretch out the canvas.

Gently pull back the contact paper slowly making sure the canvas is adhering as you go. If it starts to pull up just press down with your finger and try again.

Here is all three together....my husband thinks the middle one looks kinda like a frog....it's a monster frog ok!!

It took me less than 10 minutes to make my custom button and install it on my iphone.

GLASS VINYL SIGN KNOCKOFF

I've seen these beauties in a few gift stores around town with a hefty price tag attached to them.

Purchasing one at $100 would mean my family wouldn't eat for a week so I decided to make my own....the cost you ask??

Under 10 BUCKS!!

I purchased an unfinished poster frame from the dollar store for $5 and painted it black.

I roughed up the edges with my sander

then stained it with my Mini Wax dark walnut stain.

I printed my vinyl letters on my Cricut machine and stuck them onto the front of my piece of plexi glass (this was the hardest part, getting them centred and straight).

Ok so it's not glass like the the big ticket frames but once you get it on your wall you could never tell the difference.

FELT CAR MAT

This project has been on my "to craft list" for a very long time. When my daughter showed an obsession for matchbox cars it gave me the nudge I needed to start working on her felt car mat.

My husband and I thought of all the places a town needed like a Tim Hortons Coffee shop and a Target..haha.

I made a sketch on paper of how I wanted Ashtyn's town to look.

I used inkjet cotton sheets (from Michaels) to print off each business logo so Ashtyn could recognize each business.

This project was definitely a labour of love and it was sometimes tricky sewing the smaller pieces of felt. But all in all I'm happy with how it turned out and best of all Ashtyn is one happy customer.

TIP: if your pressed for time use a glue gun to affix your pieces onto your mat.

Camera Strap Cover Tutorials

Last week I whipped up these cute DSLR camera strap covers for myself and a girlfriend. They just slip right over the Canon and Nikon strap that comes with your camera. They are super handy since they have a little pocket to hold your lense cap and are padded for extra comfort on your neck. Ok so we havent really learned to use our cameras yet but at least they look cute.

Easy To Make Coat Hook

Not too long ago this is where my daughters coats could often be found.

To nip the mess in the you know what, I made this coat hook for her belongings.

Like many other projects of mine it was cheap and easy.

{You will need}

* a piece of wood cut to desired length

(dont have tools to cut? Places like home depot will cut wood for you)

* hooks

* paint

* stain (optional)

* vinyl letters or numbers to personalize

Lets get to work

1. Paint your wood and let it dry completely

2. Sand the edges if you want the distressed look and

stain if you desire. I always do, it gives it more of a finished look and protects.

3. Screw on your hooks. I used 4.

4. Add your vinyl whether it be your children's names or numbers or symbols.

5. Hang your new coat hook on the wall and give yourself a pat on the back because you no longer have coats on the floor.

I had an urge to stamp and sew something so I whipped me up a burlap throw pillow for my bed. The only problem is I don't have a picture tutorial to go along with my darling pillows.

VALENTINE BOWL STUFFERS

Valentines Day is not too far off so I've been slowly adding decorative touches to my house. Last weekend I whipped up these little stamped stuffed hearts.

Wanna make some???

Gather your material....felt, burlap, drop cloth material.

Using your stamps and ink, stamp your words onto the drop cloth material....what is that stuff really called anyways...I guess canvas??

Cut out your felt hearts.

Sew your stamped canvas onto the front of your heart. Add any emblelisments...buttons, burlap etc.

Hand stitch or sew your two pieces of heart together leaving a small hole big enough to stuff with polyfill or cotton balls.

Sew the hole shut.

I also made some mini burlap pillows to throw in the mix.

DIY BARN DOOR

When I came across these two great barn door tutorials below, I knew I had to take matters into my own crafty hands and make one for above my fireplace.

Here was the inspiration behind my project..thanks Kierste and Donna!!

BROWN PAPER PACKAGES

FUNKY JUNK INTERIORS

Both crafty ladies have tutorials on their blog however, I thought I would post how I made mine.

First measure your space and determine how tall and wide your barn door needs to be. Cut wood to size, and sand the edges a bit, we are going for the worn rough look so don't go sanding crazy.

I used the following wood for my barn door.

Lay your wood on a flat surface where you can hammer or nail. I used pieces of cardboard to space the 2 x 6's apart nicely to look fencelike.

Cut your sides and cross piece of wood to fit on your

2 x 6's. These pieces will be your braces on your barn door. Then start hammering away or use a nail gun.

Next comes the fun part...paint or stain.

I used Behr Cozy Cottage Satin to paint the entire surface and good old Mini Wax Dark Walnut stain to make it look "worn" looking.

I'm happy with how my barn door turned out and better yet it cost me less than 10 bucks...waaahooo!

Wooden Crate With a Story

While antique store searching the other day I purchased a small unfinished crate for a couple bucks. It basically looked like these. Pretty boring and plain

With a little stain {Mini wax dark walnut}...

Lots of sanding....

And a stencil cut with my Sure Cuts a Lot Software..

I came up with this..

Now for the story....Coopers Grocery store is where my husband and I met almost 11 years ago.

The number on the back of the crate represents our first date...April 27th, 2000.

For now the newest crate of our family sits on our table housing some very BRIGHT Christmas balls. Sorry for the blindage people.

DIY CANDLE STANDS

I came across two great candle stick tutorials at DRAB to FAB and BROWN PAPER PACKAGES

I just had to make me some of these for my front entrance and guest bathroom.
You can make some too....they're super easy to do.

{WHAT I USED}

* a piece of 4x4 wood cut into any height you fancy

I made a set of three pillars

* six pieces of 5 x 5 wood for my tops and bottoms

Or you can use a fence topper like I was originally going to do...then I changed my mind

Sand all your wood using this little miracle worker.

It's definitely something to put on your Christmas list if you're planning on more wood working projects.

I assembled all my tops and bottons to my

4 x 4 using my Weldbond glue.

Normally I would've painted these using my Rustoleum "flat black" spray paint however, it's way too cold for that, so instead I used Behr "Black Suede" Satin paint from Home Depot.

As you can tell I didn't do a great paint job since I knew they would be distressed once dry.

Ohhh I love this part....take your sweet sanding friend and distress those candle holders. You see, I like mine very worn looking so I went CrAzY with my sander.

UPDATE: I decided to stain my candles with Mini Wax's walnut brown stain and I'm SO happy I did. They look so much better.

This project has been on my to craft list for quite sometime and I finally tackled it with my left over 4x4 scraps from another project I'm working on....coming soon.

These would make a great gift for the game lover in your family, which in my case would be my hubby.

I found this idea over at Shanty to Chic, but before you head over to read the tutorial I should mention that I had to improvise a little on my dice.

To my dismay I couldn't find the Ralph Lauren Smoke glaze that Shanty to Chic uses on most of their projects {apparently discontinued??}. Instead I used a medium brown stain {paint on then wipe off}

On my edges I used this ink

If you don't have an electronic cutter to make the circles then use a craft punch.

While browsing through one of my favourite gift stores I came across one of those Mason jar soap dispensers with a $30 price tag....ouch.

Yea sure it looked all professionally done and all but seriously 30 bucks.

Today I made one for my kitchen and bathroom...

Warning the DIY soap dispenser tutorial you are about to view is very shoddy. But it worked for me in a pinch and can work for you too saving you about ahhhh $29!!

Besides who sees the bottom of the soap lid anyways...

Grab yourself a mason jar and an old pump from a cream bottle or soap dispenser.

Take a pair of these babies...yup needle nose plyers and make a hole in the top of your lid.

Once you have a hole started make it big enough to fit your soap pump by rotating and pushing the plyers through....

You want your soap pump to fit in the hole snuggly so check for fit as you go.

On the underside of my lid I hammered down my metal pieces so they didnt stick out.

See I told you this was shabby...

Trim your pump at the bottom to fit your jar and voila...a Mason Jar soap dispenser!!

THE {BURLAP} STOCKINGS WERE HUNG.....

What is it about burlap that us crafters love....the texture, the colour?? All I can say is that I was a little shocked when I walked into the fabric store last week as the fifth customer buying burlap to make Christmas stockings.

Then to my dismay I was unable to get the shade of burlap I desired, however, I settled for the lighter cream colour to make these....

HERE IS MY TUTORIAL...

1. Lay your burlap down on a flat surface and fold over

2. Trace out the shape of your stocking using another stocking or eyeballing it

3. Before cutting pin the two pieces together

4. Then CUT

5. Sew around the edge of your stocking starting and ending about half an inch from the ends
{this is done so you can fray your stocking a bit once it's sewn and folded over}

If you choose fold the burlap over at the top to make a cuff....then sew on a hook with ribbon or twine so it can be hung

6. Using my Sure Cuts Alot software I printed out EST. and each family members year of birth onto vinyl.

7. Stencil using black acrylic paint. I use Ceramcoat from Michaels

I found my wooden letters at my local dollarstore and tied them on with twine.

In the end I was happy with the lighter burlap since I have so much darker brown in my house already.

DiY BaTHRooM aRT

Hey everyone!!

Today I whipped up some new art for my guest bathroom.

Like whatcha see...here's how I made them

Cut two pieces of wood to your desired size don't worry about sanding them since were going for the worn look anyways.

Paint your wood black

Once your black is dry, paint over top of it with a beige-ish colour. I mixed my white with some light brown paint
(sorry no pics of this)

Cut out your man and woman bathroom symbols and letters.

You can find the bathroom symbols on sure cuts a lot under "symbols."

Reverse weed your vinyl....so you have a stencil.

Once your paint is completely dry position your vinyl on your board and paint away. Peel your vinyl off.

Now the fun part, once all the paint is completely dry take a power sander (or hand sand) and make those signs look "old" looking.

Add some picture hooks to the back of your signs and your good to go!!

CrAFts aRe NeVeR A BoRe WiTH A 2X4

All I want for Christmas is a 2x4....really there is so much you can do with them in the crafting world.

For fall I made Wooden pumpkins, before that I made a set of Family Blocks and for my Christmas decorating I made this 2 x 4 snowman.

{{{Here's my snowman tutorial}}}

1. Gather three pieces of 2 x 4 block in staggering sizes. Sand the edges.

3. Paint all three blocks. I used white paint mixed with a bit of light brown paint to tone down the bright white colour.

4. Once your white paint is dry take a bit of dark brown paint and water it down. I wanted the aged, primitive look so I painted all three blocks with my watered down brown paint and immediately wipped it off with a cloth.

5. For my snowman's nose I used a piece of beadboard painted orange. I painted my watered down brown paint over the nose and whipped it down allowing the brown to sneak into the grooves of the beadboard.

6. Once my snowman was completely dry I glued him together using my Weldbond glue. I decorated him with little do dads I found in my craft cupboards such as twine, buttons and scrabble tiles.

A clothes pin, Mod Podged with scrapbook paper holds the little "Brr" sign.

I love how my snowman turned out...I'm making a few for Christmas gifts!!

LETS START THE CHRISTMAS SEASON WITH A NEW WREATH!!

I decided last year when taking down my Christmas decorations that this year my front door deserved a fresh new Christmas wreath with a bit more style and class. I won't even show you my old wreath...I'd hate to embarass myself.

I wanted my new wreath fairly simple so I chose only a few things to decorate it with.

A cream coloured star and two fall garlands.

I picked the garlands up in the harvest section at Micheals a month ago but I'm sure they have something very similar in the Christmas section.

My wispy twig wreath was also purchased at Micheals.

I wrapped both garlands around the wreath in an over under motion.

I then tied my star onto the wreath.
To make my star hang straight and not sideways I retied it using my piece of twine. Pull the loop of the twine through the hole on the star and feed the ends of the twine through that loop and pull. I hope that explanation wasn't too confusing!!

Lastly using floral wire, I added a hook to the back of my wreath so it could be hung securely.

ASHTYN'S ICE CREAM PARTY

This past weekend Ashtyn and a group of her family and friends gathered for an ice cream party to celebrate her 2nd birthday.

I had so much fun making and putting together all the party details. Best of all Ashtyn LOVED her party!!!

Mini Subway Art Sign

I've seen subway art all over the place so I thought I would whip up a Christmas themed sign for my guest bathroom.

I used my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software to cut my letters onto vinyl.

I painted my wood using my favourite paint, Ceramcoat.

While your waiting for your paint to dry you can read the newspaper your wood is drying on like I did.....hey a craft fair this weekend....sweet!!

After I arranged and stuck my vinyl letters on my wood I glued down a few scrabble tiles with stars on them using my Weldbond Glue.

I'm thinking Ashtyn will be getting a piece of subway art for her room for Christmas painted pink and all about her!!

FIVE GREEN AND SPECKLED FROGS

Have you heard the little children's counting song, "Five Green and Speckled Frogs?"

It's a favourite in my house and was always a bit hit while I taught preschool. To help bring the little song to life I made 5 magnetic felt frogs and found a "speckled log" in the park for them to sit on. Now your little one can help you sing the song using her props.

Here's the Low Down

1. Cut out ten pieces of green felt in a froggy shape.

2. Decorate the front side however you wish adding googly eyes and speckly skin. For all my felt stories I use fabric paint.

3. Next your going to glue the two felt pieces together with cotton balls and a magnet on the back of the frog INSIDE the felt.

Do this for all five frogs.

4. Take your clean"frog log" and hot glue five magnets to it.

***** Remember that magnets either attract to one another or push away so make sure that all frogs will have a place to sit on the log before you glue the magnets on. I learned this the hard way once....gulp.*****

5. Cut out a piece of blue felt in the shape of a pond for the frogs to jump into....

For those who don't know the

Five Green and Speckled Frog song, here it is....

"Five green and speckled frogs sat on a speckled log,

eating some most delicious bugs....yum, yum!

One jumped into the pool where it was nice and cool,

Now there are four green speckled frogs....glub, glub"!

Continue to count down until all the frogs are in the pond....

My little girls pants are always falling down. As cute as her little bum is I'm sorry but plumbers crack isnt a good look for her.

Here's the tutorial for the toddler belts I

made for Ashtyn.

You'll need some webbing, ribbon, D hooks (or velco) and a sewing machine.

1. Measure your child's waist over their clothing and add about three to four inches to that. This will be the length of your webbing.
My webbing length was 25 inches

For your ribbon measurement take the length of your webbing and add 5 inches.
My ribbon length was 30 inches.

2. Burn the edges of your webbing and ribbon to seal them. (This is a hard task for the cotton webbing since it turns it black. I just left it alone on my one belt and if the fraying gets bad on the one end I will add a little metal clip)

3. Sew the ribbon onto your webbing wrapping the ribbon around to the back on one end.

This is done so when the belt is looped through the D hooks, you will see the ribbon design and not the webbing colour. If your using velco instead of D hooks then only sew the ribbon on the front of the webbing.

4. Take two D hooks and feed them through one end of the webbing and sew.

**The D hooks are sewn on the end without the ribbon sewn on back**

5. To cover up the stitching I added a piece of ribbon with an embelishment like a button or flower.

Ribbon and webbing can be found in all colours so don't forget to make your little boy some belts too.

PUMPKIN PATCH MARBLE CRAFT

Looking for a last minute Halloween craft for the kids to do before the big day? Why not try this pumpkin patch marble craft. It's super easy, sorta messy(if you loose your marbles!!) and turns out really cute.

Oh and I would feel better just saying that little ones think marbles are candy so just keep an eye on little marble tasters. This is a great craft for a preschooler!!

YOU WILL NEED...

* a pan with sides

* white and orange paper ( I use cardstock so it doesn't bend and get soggy)

* green paint

* glue

* marbles

* a cup and spoon

Cut out some orange pumpkins

Put some marbles in a cup with a small amount of green paint.

Then plop the painted marbles onto the paper using the spoon.

For the fun part....roll the marbles all around in the pan and watch as they create a twisty, twirly, viney pumpkin patch. Be prepared for marbles to escape from the pan and roll across the floor if little ones get carried away with rolling. haha

Once the kids have rolled to their little hearts content get them to glue their pumpkins on the patch.

Storage Cupboard Turned Play Fridge

I was going to build my daughter a play fridge to go with the kitchen set I made for her but I got lazy and took the easy way out. Here is what I did... I'm very happy with my results.

I found a little white storage shelf while shopping at Rona the other day ( Rona is a Canadian Home Depot basically). So I decided instead of sawing, sanding gluing and nailing, I would turn the basic little two shelf cupboard into a play fridge.

To give it that extra special touch I lined the shelves with drawer liner paper.....

I gave it a new fridge like handle....

And to cover the holes where the original handle would've gone I attached a little wooden magnetic board covered in fabric.

Ashtyn loves her little fridge and in the end I saved myself time and money!!

PUMPKIN FACE STICKERS

I came across these wonderful facial feature pumpkin stickers at DISNEY'S FAMILY FUN WEBSITE.

When you get to the site click on "View full size and print" and from there you will print two pages. The one picutured below and another with noses and mouths.

I used Avery Sticker Project paper.

Since I needed stickers for smaller pumpkins I clicked on the"paper saving option" in my printing set up. By doing so I printed all smaller facial features on one

8.5 x 11 sheet of sticker paper. Cut out the stickers and let the kids decorate their pumpkins with NO MESS!!

DIY SPOOKY HALLOWEEN TREE

MY PuMPkin PaTCH LaWN STaKe

I'll come clean and admit that I'm a Craftaholic this week!!

Here's how I made this sign...

I cut four pieces of wood and sanded the rough edges

* the post is 42 inches

* the sign on top is 16.5 inches

* the two direction signs are both 15 inches

I painted all the pieces using Ceramcoat Acrylic paint from Michaels. Since this is going to be beside my door and out of the rain I didn't bother using outdoor paint.

Once completely dry I roughed up the edges....have I told you lately how much I love the worn look

I used my Cricut and Sure Cuts Alot Software to make my lettering

FONTS I USED FOUND IN MICROSOFT OFFICE!!!

Pumpkin Patch = Grilled Cheese

Hay Ride = Smarty Pants

Corn Maze = Hank

For this project I used the outdoor glossy vinyl because it holds up better and is intended for outdoor use.

I affixed each sign onto the post using Wood Glue

For a special touch I tied a piece of Raffia to the top and placed it next to my front door for all to see.

WoODen PUmpKins

I made these wooden pumpkins with the left over scrap from my Family blocks. Again they were easy and cheap to make which is my kinda craft...

Here's what I did

#1 First I cut my wood in varying sizes and sanded the corners at the top. I also cut smaller pieces for the pumpkin stems and then sanded all my wood.

#2 I added some dimension to the pumpkins by sawing some lines down the front.

#3 Next I painted the pumpkins orange and stems brown. Can I just admit that it took me three coats of orange paint to get the colour I wanted....In the end I used Ceramcoat Acrylic paint in the colour Terra Cotta. When I make two more sets this weekend it should go a lot faster!!

#4 Once completely dry I took my sandpaper and roughed up the edges. I love the distressed look.

#5 I added some Raffia to finish it off

Vinyl Block Letters

Everytime my mom comes to visit me I prepare a craft for us to do during her stay. This visit we made vinyled block letters. Remember I'm on a huge vinyl kick right now after my Sure Cuts Along purchase. This craft is obviously fairly easy to make but here are my step by step directions and pics. Also can I just say that this project costs almost next to nothing to make once you have

some of the big costs out of the way...like the Cricut machine.

1. Purchase an unfinished 2 x 4 piece of wood from Home Depot or any other home improvement store. A huge piece cost me $2.

2. Cut your wood into desired heights. I wanted my blocks all sizes.

3. Sand your wood

4. Stain or paint your wood. We used black acrylic paint.

5. While your wood is drying choose the scrapbook paper for

your blocks. Note*** Instead of just cutting the paper for the blocks we ripped it with a ruler to create more of a rough, less perfect looking effect.

6. Once blocks are completely dry, sand the edges a bit to give them a worn distressed edge.

7. Using Mod Podge glue your scrapbook paper onto your blocks.

8. Almost Done!!! Put your vinyl letters on each block. And if you choose, you can embellish with buttons, ribbons etc. We used a button to dot the "i".

Here's how ours turned out!! Tomorrow I might start working on a set that says "Harvest" Or "Give Thanks".

Last Christmas I got a Cricut....wahoo. A few days ago I purchased Sure Cuts A Lot software to use with my Cricut....double wahoo. After figuring it out and becoming familiar with it I'm thinking why didn't I buy this program sooner?? No need for more expensive cartridges. This program enables you to cut ANYTHING you want on your cricut using ALL the fonts on your computer and any shape you find on your computer. There are also tonnes of websites and blogs that you can download free shapes from. You must check out scrapping table to purchase your SCAL while it's on sale. With that sale you get a bunch of free awesome shapes along with it.

Ok onto the project right???

So tonight I used my Cricut and SCAL software to jazz up my baking canisters. I used to have these boring old laminated ones I made years ago...

Pretty dorky right??

Well here are my new vinyl ones....a lot nicer I must say so myself.

Oh and can I just state that I'm not crazy putting the icing sugar wording on the chocolate chip canister. That is actually home to the icing sugar when I buy some more....as for the chocolate chips??? They go in my tummy!!!

Crayon Cozies

As some of you may recall I did a giveaway a few months back for a custom designed crayon cozy. The lady who won had two grandchildren...a boy and a girl. Instead of them having to fight over one crayon cozy I made each of them their own. The little boy chose Lightening McQueen and the little girl chose Hello Kitty.

My Craftin Lull is Over

As much as I love to craft...sometimes I just need a break. All my free time has been spent packing for camping, camping and cleaning up after camping. This week during a brief moment of silence I heard a little voice calling out to me....and lone and behold it was my sewing machine. There it sat in the corner of my room just begging to come out and play. So I immediately got down to some serious crafting business.

I've been wanting to jump on the felt food frenzy train for a long time and now that Ashtyn is almost two I thought it would be a good time. I sewed up a brown "paper bag" and began filling it with some yummy goodies. Here is what I made so far....

DIY WATER TABLE

Don't have a fancy outdoor water table for your little one?? No worries. Make one yourself. It's really a no brainer but I thought I would share.

Take a plastic bin with enough play space for one or two children. Fill with water, fill with toys and listen to those shrieks of enjoyment. Clean up is a breeze, empty the water and store the toys inside the bin.

Get cReATiVe.....

* add a drop or two of food colouring to the water....green for swamp water, blue for the ocean. Plastic animals can be added to the "habitat"

* add some dish soap

*add different objects to test for sinking or floating like rocks and corks

*throw in some stuff from the kitchen like a sponge, funnel, turkey baster or strainer.

"Oobleck is a non-newtonian fluid. That is, it acts like a liquid when being poured, but like a solid when a force is acting on it. You can grab it and then it will ooze out of your hands. Make enough Oobleck and you can even walk on it"!

"Oobleck gets its name from the Dr. Seuss book Bartholomew and the Oobleck where a gooey green substance, Oobleck, fell from the sky and wreaked havoc in the kingdom".

MATERIALS

2 cups corn starch

1 cup water

a bowl

food colouring (optional)

MIX EVERYTHING TOGETHER IN A BOWL....THEN PLAY

This stuff is great cause it washes off easily with water and is non toxic for curious little tasters!!

WARNING: Adults will have fun playing in this too

GRADUATION CUPCAKES

This past week my husband graduated from University. While working full time and taking care of a family he managed to get his Bachelors degree. So to help celebrate I made him some graduation cupcakes. I thought I would share them with you in case you have a big graduation celebration now or in the future.

Here is what you need

* Licorice laces

* Mini reece or caramel cups

* Square chocolates or cookies. I used crispy crunch bars I found in the bulk section of my grocery store

* Mini M&Ms

1. Ice your cupcakes

2. Place a chocolate cup on top of the icing and then add a square chocolate on top of that securing it with a little dab of icing.

I used my cheese grater to smooth down the surface of the chocolate cup

3. Cut your licorice laces to size to make the tassles on the grad cap. Stick them on using a small amount of icing.

4. Finish them off by adding a mini M & M's on top of the "tassles"

And there you have it some cute graduation cupcakes. Now I won't get into what happened to my poor cupcakes on the way to my husbands graduation get together. Lets just say leave your cupcake pan on the floor or on someones lap and not on the back seat of the vehicle. Oops.

I don't know about you gals, but May is turning out to be one busy month for me and my family. With trips visiting family and friends, camping and 50th wedding anniversarys this mama is busy.
